The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Discovered in 1974, it is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.
Historical Background
Buried with the first Emperor of China in 210-209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his afterlife. The figures were discovered in 1974 by local farmers and excavation is still ongoing. Over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, and 670 horses have been uncovered.
