Yu Garden is an extensive Chinese garden located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai. It is considered one of the finest examples of classical Chinese garden design.
Historical Background
Originally created in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan, a government administrator, as a private garden for his family. The garden was opened to the public after 1949 and has been carefully restored multiple times.
